Salma Hayek was a big success in Hollywood when she landed an appearance in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Her Oscar nominated part in Frida brought her up the ranks of Hollywood. Hayek was also involved with television, as executive producers of Ugly Betty and other hit programs. Salma Hayek Jimenez began her life on September 2, 1966. She was the daughter of a Spanish mother and a Lebanese father, she was raised in a well-to-do Catholic home. Hayek was raised by an affluent Catholic family. She went to a convent school at age 12 in Louisiana and then lived in Houston along with her aunt throughout her teenage years. After a short stint at the University of Mexico City after which she walked out to pursue a career in acting. She eventually went on to become an telenovela actor in her native Mexico. The first film of the year was released in 1990, Hayek moved from California in 1991 to Los Angeles to work on her English. Following a few small roles, she landed a role alongside Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.
